As a student, you must pick ONE subject from EACH of the 6 areas in the hexagon. However, the last area (the Arts) may be substituted for one extra subject in one of the other areas of study. This is important for students who are planning to study for example medicine or engineering. Universities may require physics and chemistry as an admission criterion. In order to fulfill the admission requirements, the student will have to substitute Visual Arts in category 6 for one extra subject in the ‘science’ category.
